Disillusionment

I found myself mainly connecting with entry 81.  This piece stands out to me because of its commentary on teacher treatment of IEPs.  In my own experience, I have had teachers who also didn’t follow my IEP.  However, my experience does differ in the fact that my teachers gave me more assistance than I actually needed, making work that was challenging and enjoyable become boring and dull.  This is a very big problem in our education system.  If teachers are not giving their students the appropriate amount of attention, how can we hope for our students to learn effectively?  I am lucky in the fact that I overcame the ignorance of my teachers.

The other main reason this chapter stood out to me is because it is so elegantly written.  The writer makes great use of similes, metaphors, and parallel construction throughout the essay.  By writing in a creative and interesting way, this writer is making it easier to read about such a difficult and important topic.  Part of the reason why individuals don’t like learning about these issues has to do with how dry the reading is.  This piece made the issue come alive in an engaging way.  I think this writer should publish his or her own book.
